Now that the French terrorists have been identified and killed, the debate over Syrian and Iraqi refugees has entered America's political arena. The dysfunctional House has passed a bill supposedly limiting the admittance of those refugees because of the Paris attack. The fact that not one Syrian or Iraqi was involved in the Paris attacks is irrelevant to trolls in the House. Needless to say recent polls have shown Americans are buying this charade and now are saying that the refugees should be denied entrance. Apparently the polls show once again the stupidity of Americans, but it is not the first time. A recent article on AlterNet.com entitled: U.S. Opinion of Jewish Refugees in 1939 Matches Racial Panic of GOP Governors Over Syrians presents a study conducted in 1938 concerning the possible importation of German Jews trying to avoid the holocaust. A graph of the responses is presented below: The graph shows that 4.9% of Americans at the time supported the refugee program. A later program to allow refugee Jewish children garnered just 30% support.
Given the results then and the hysteria now, clearly America's claim of helping others in times of need is just more hypocrisy. History repeats in America or maybe if the refugees were white and not Syrian or Iraqi they may receive a more humane response.
