It should be more apparent to the intelligent folks of this great country that democracy exists in name only. The US Supreme Court stroke down a portion of the voting rights act which prohibited the racist South (9 states total) from passing discriminatory voting laws. This should not be a surprise to anyone who follows these issues because the conservative majority on the court warned several years ago that Congress should fix and update the law. Well, we know that was not going to happen after the 2010 and 2012 elections saw the voters leaving the House in the hands of racist fools from the Tea Party. They cry ultra-patriotism while trying to roll back social programs, ignore jobs programs, vote down Obamacare, pass anti-women legislation, and cater to their political donors at the expense of the voters.
Nothing will ever be done by this Congress on this and other important legislation for the country until the fools are voted out of Congress. Thanks in part to the worthless main-stream-media, there is little criticism of the fools who they follow around each and every day begging for soundbites of stupidity. So we are left with a government which preaches freedom and democracy while allowing discrimination, crony capitalism (check out the immigration and defeated farm bills), sexism, and all manner of foolishness to dominate the national discourse. We thought George Bush made the United States and Americans look like a bunch of hypocrites with his torture policies, GITMO, and his lies about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan; but, that is small potatoes when you have a legislative body that will not respond to injustice after myriad warnings from the Supreme Court and elsewhere. America is undergoing a fundamental change after the election of Barack Obama but unfortunately it is exposing its true nature of racism, bigotry, and ignorance for the whole world to see. Racists in the South claim they want freedom from federal involvement while using government to deny citizens their full constitutional rights of the democracy they claim to cherish.
