The events of the last two weeks provide a perfect example of what can and did happen because citizens don't vote. A city with a 67% black population has allowed an oppressive police force to flourish, elect a worthless Republican mayor, and even elected a former policewoman who is accused of police brutality to the city council. This could all have been prevented by the black voters in the city. But due to gross stupidity, laziness, ignorance, and apathy they find themselves oppressed and killed by their own police department.
What did it take in April 2014 or two years ago when this population sat on their asses and allowed clowns, racists, and incompetent fools to be elected to office? How difficult was it to get up and vote for candidates who shared their interests and would protect their civil rights? How many of these people are now registered to vote? Has the death of Michael Brown inspired them to go to the polls in November 2014? Do they have any viable candidates for office who will ensure their rights? All of these questions will be answered in a few short months but history shows that they will sit on their asses again and allow the injustice to continue. The events of Ferguson, Mo. are not unique. Look at the South, New York, Los Angeles and any city in America where minorities are subjected to police brutality on almost a daily basis. They protest and march in those cities but what they don't do is vote. America has a great system for overturning slavery, oppression, and brutality it is called voting. The slaves of 200 years ago revolted against injustice and the lack of the right to vote. Now all you have to do is vote to overturn racist systems like the South and Ferguson. Mo. But as history has shown the ignorant, oppressed, and apathetic believe they are getting back at the system. They also believe that their vote does not matter. Their stupidity does not allow them to realize that by not voting their are by default voting for the winner i.e. a Republican mayor and a councilwoman charged with police brutality or a racist Ferguson police chief and police force.Maybe if it were possible for the dead Michael Brown to comment, he might say that a different vote two or three years ago might have saved his life.
