Americans in their infinite racial hatred and universal ignorance elected Donald Trump as President of the United States, Tuesday. Hillary Roddam Clinton won the popular vote by 300,000 votes(according to NY Times) but lost the antiquated and undemocratic electoral college vote, an anachronism that should have been abandoned decades ago. Why did she lose to such a despicable human being as Trump? There are several key reasons.
First, she had, as well as Trump, net unfavorable ratings among voters. For thirty years, the GOP has mounted a concerted effort to slander her every move. Constantly saying she was a liar, untrustworthy, devious, and unfit. The exact characteristics befitting of Trump. Her actions did little to dispel many of these lies, such as the email scandal, flipflopping on: TPP, $15 minimum wage, support of fracking, Wall Street links, the Clinton Foundation, support for neoliberalism, globalism, etc. Second, the Democratic National Committee's sabotaging of Bernie Sanders' campaign during the primaries. Many Bernie voters were turned off and sat on their hands on Tuesday as evidenced by there being seven million less votes cast in 2016 than in 2012. Bernie's message resonated with many voters in both parties and the sabotaging obviously pissed people off. This was quite obvious when the email disclosures from Russian hackers exposed the inner working of the DNC. Democratic voters did not believe her when she started parroting Bernie's progressive messages; it was viewed as political expediency. Third, 53% of white women voters voted for Trump, a statistic I find astonishing given Trump's sexism and misogyny. In an article about voters in Smithfield, Ohio, a woman said she voted for Trump because he promised change. She did not think his behavior was a large negative which I guess is okay as long as he is not grabbing your pussy. She had previously voted for Obama but said he did not do anything. She complained about people losing their unemployment benefits and not putting people to work. The fact that unemployment benefits are supplemented by the federal government and controlled by the state government escaped her. The fact that Congressional Republicans cut federal support and that her Republican governor and legislature denied providing more money for the benefit also escaped her. Her obvious ignorance is symptomatic of the Trump voter along with her mistrust of Clinton. With seventy percent of the population functioning at a high school or below academic level, critical thinking and fact-checking are unheard of. It is a sad state of affairs that Trump was elected and not Clinton, not that I am a Clinton fan, but when hatred and ignorance controls your actions then you deserve the consequences and with Trump there will be many.
