Two weeks ago four Democrats and four Republicans stood on the national stage and presented a no detail, generalized immigration plan. The plan as it turns out was baloney. During the last week, America has witnessed the GOP House holding hearings on immigration plans designed to setup a two-tier system. They claim that the Dream Act is extreme, immigration reform is equivalent to amnesty, and of course the undocumented should pay fines, past taxes, etc. The bottom line is that the GOP does not give a damn about fixing the current immigration problems. The idea that eleven million undocumented people might vote for the Democrats guarantees that the GOP will not support the Dream Act or any other immigration reform.
Illegal immigration is an asset to the greedy, slave labor-minded employers who benefit from cheap and oppressive labor conditions. From the WalMart to the small business which hires and underpays its employees, cheap labor is their means to larger profits. Denying benefits such as vacation pay, sick leave, and pregnancy leave is fine with this class of employer because he knows if his current employees resist he can easily fire them and hire someone else to do the job. Humanity in the work place be damned; loyalty to the employees be damned; profit is the priority and the only priority. So if you think the GOP will ever support an Obama-style immigration plan, forget it. The GOP strives on fear and hatred which they use as a mask to cover their real agenda of living off the poor for the benefit of their wealthy donors. Maybe after the 2014 election when some of the fools currently residing in the House GOP are kicked out of office meaningful immigration reform can be accomplished. The immigration debate we are enduring now is just for show by the GOP who believe that the undocumented are stupid enough to believe that they, the GOP, cares about them. Don't forget George W. Bush tried immigration reform and
